
Who is Bea Andersen?
Bea Andersen is a Dutch doctor who graduated from the Vrije Universiteit in 1987. She continued her studies by gaining a diploma in Tropical medicine in Antwerp which she followed with a years’ voluntary work in Ghana.
She went on to work for Doctors without Borders, in Sudan, Bangladesh and Kenya. She subsequently worked for UNICEF, and then as a project manager for the Stichting Medische Hulp Kenya (Foundation for Medical Help in Kenya) in the West Pokot province. After meeting her husband in Kenya in1993, she settled on his farm and started to work on the health care of the local population.
She now leads the Mount Elgon Trust foundation, which is responsible, among others, for establishing and running medical projects in the region. (For more information on the Trust see "About SOK, Mount Elgon Trust")
